This lacecap variety of the hydrangea is an interesting plant.. I actually planted it last year for it's foliage.. The leavs turn reddish purple in the fall. The flat lacecaps are an added bonus. When it is spring and summer the veins in the leaves are red also.
It has grown like crazy this year.. I always use the 3 years rule before hydrangeas will be a solid reliable plant.. After one year it has been wonderful. It is more compact than a mophead. It also grows in US zones 6-9, so it won't grow where I grew up in Idaho.. Bummer!

These lacecap hydrangeas will only grow leaves, but no flowers in my area, because of the cold winds and the fact that we are 225 metres above sea-level....but yours is gorgeous.
After just one year. The next two years ought to be great.
I have learned to appreciate the differences between the hydrangeas and not all of them have to be the big old mopheads to be gorgeous..
