North Georgia Outdoor Water Ban

We are now under a water ban handed down by our Gov. Sonny Perdue.. I can't argue about it because where I live we are 15 inches in the hole so far this year.. So what is one to do when the temps are mild and your flower pots are still blooming and beautiful?? Is it legal to get a pitcher and cart water from in the house to my potted plants?? I was thinking of using the kids bath water, but then again I want my flowers to live a little longer..

In our county they also have new water restrictions every few weeks. I am not sure how much rain we had sofar this year, but it seems we always get left out when they predict some for our area. Sofar we are still allowed to water with a bucket - but not too much longer probably.

We are under water restrictions too.... I started buying paper plates and cups and we use them and I run the sprinkler for an hour instead of the dishwasher. I would recycle bathwater except that we take showers and I'm not carting it downstairs anyway.

Sorry about your water restrictions. It's supposed to be a mild la nina year weather wise. In my area the fall rains have started early and the last month it's been 5 to 10 degrees cooler. In our area la nina is generally more wet( which it's hard to believe it can be more wet in Seattle) and cooler. I think it's just got to make it across the country.
Here's to sending you some much needed rain.
All the best to you, BOB

Hi, sorry to hear about your water restrictions. We don't use any water that could be used for drinking water for our lawn or the flowers. My hubby put a up a well w/pump and that is what we use, but only when necessary. I think the lack of water should steer one towards the direction of using less pots and plants which do not need to be watered much. I have always had a problem when I lived in the U.S. with people who spend 100s of $$$ on the water bill to water a lawn while children in Africa or elsewhere are dying from drought or when the money they spend on water for a year could be triple income of families in 3rd world countries, but that is just my opinion. Anyhow, I wish you a happy fall season and that you find many ways to recycle water in your house for your flower pots. / Andrea

A part of the solution to our water shortage in Georgia is greywater recycling. We are dealers of the Brac Greywater Recycling System. It takes in greywater (bath/shower/laundry water), filters and treats it, and then uses it for toilet flushing. By using recycled greywater for toilet flushing instead of potable water, the average homeowner can save 30% or more on water usage. Because of plumbing requirements, installation of this systems is easier done with new construction or major renovations of homes. We serve Atlanta and all of Georgia. Ummm, staring at my future I think...I have pots with vegies...it was the super expensive tomatoes that led me to do it..but we're still allowed to bucket water 3 times a week. They are self-watering plastic pots tho. What will I do when it gets to that? Let them die I guess..its a whole lot nicer to have water coming out of your taps than lining up for it in the streets.
