Christopher Marlowe By David Austin

Christopher Marlowe by David Austin has to be my favorite rose in my garden.. The differences in the colors when it opens is spectacular.. I grew up where the roses were huge!! I have become very fond of the English Roses myself.. Their fragrance and ability to resist mildew and black spot make them even better. Their blooms may not be huge, but the bush is usually packed in the spring and fall. This rose is my most abundant producers, in its third year, it has not disappointed.. I also sometimes wonder where the name comes from.. Anyone know?

As for the weekend, it was another wild one at work, hence the no posts.. I had to choose sleep vs. blogging and the sleeping won out.. Working til 4-5am sure messes up an sleep schedule one could have.. The good news, it rained a good amount over the weekend, so I really didn't miss out on any gardening..

I would assume it was name after the poet Christopher Marlowe. Here is a wesite about the poet you might want to look at, http://www.marlowe-society.org/

It is a very beautiful rose and I have read some very good things about the David Austin roses. I will need to look into getting some for my rose garden. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful rose.

Hi there, I have two English roses - Graham Thomas and Pat Austin. They both get black spots though. Maybe it is where they are planted. The Eden Rose is not an English rose and it doesn't have a real scent, but it is very resistant to mildew and black spots. You can read up on it on http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=1.1709

Take care and hello to Georgia, Andrea

Yes, it's Christopher Marlowe the poet and playwright, who lived at the same time as Shakespeare. It's a fab colour too :)

Beautiful rose. I have one David Austin rose - "Gertrude Jekyll" - they have to be protected here during the winter. :(
But I love Jekyll - beautiful color and the scent is unbelieveable!
