Tomatoes and Basil

I am so excited, the first sweet 100 is ripe and the celebrity and lemon boy are doing well. My unknown heirlooms are much slower, but a couple even have sweet yellow blooms.. Can't you tell I am excited. I grow basil and marigolds around them, old folklore from grandma I guess.

Grandma was wise because she knew from experience that marigolds and basil contain vital oils that repel pests.

Hi Dirty, Walk2Write is absolutely right, there's a good reason for those companion plantings. We do that as well and rarely have too many pests with the tomatoes. Nasturtiums are another good (and pretty, and edible!) companion as well.

We have a couple of very small tomatoes set on at this point, but they've only been in a couple of weeks due to the über rainy weather we've been having here.
