Weeds

Many things love to come and live off your plants, including bacteria, bugs, birds, and bunnies. If youdon't control them, entire crops can be ruined. The result of your careful cultivation, in your gardenand in your life, can be lost to predators in a short time. ... Take a look at your life, what toxic relationships, substances and emotions are feeding on your energy and taking away from whatyou have to give to others. Eliminate them.- Vivian Elisabeth Glyck, 1997

A very astute observation. Thank you for sharing the quote.

Hey, as far as the water lily: I grow mine in a half barrel water garden. It doesn't take up a lot of space, and to control mosquitos, I've got a fish called a paradise fish. It can tolerate low oxygen comditions and it loves to eat mosquito eggs and larvae.

I am worried that the cats may eat the fish.... I just hate mosquitos they are ridiculous here in the South.

Hi Dirty, agree totally with that observation as well! I spent several hours today weeding a couple of our beds and can't even begin to imagine how many I pulled. The weather lately has been great for drying things out since all the flooding, but in the meanwhile, all the nastiest weeds had a chance to thrive! Now we need a good rain for everything, talk about ironies ... a week ago we were worrying about more flooding, and this week? The opposite ... As for mosquitoes, they are a scourge down south, as I recall from my years in FL. Now, the only chemical we use in our yard is Cutter Bug Free Backyard, which really does effectively kill off all the biters for about a month. Trouble is, we have a neighbor with a foul wading pool breeding station for mosquitoes ... she keeps say she'll dump it, but yeah, uh huh, that will be the day.
